  1. I would love to win both of these books! My brick wall is my husband’s paternal family. I just can’t find any of them in early census records where they are supposed to have been living. I don’t know where to go.

  2. Here’s my brick wall – Bertram Weiss, b: 15 Aug 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; d: 12 Aug 2000, Jacksonville Beach, FL; Father: Joseph Weiss, b: abt. 1899?; d: 1969? in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Mother: Ethel Gilman(?); b: 1910; d: 1999, Ormond Beach, Florida. Ethel divorced Joseph (unknown date); then married Poytinger (unknown date).

I have an address for Bert when he joined the service in 1945 but when I looked up that address in the 1940 census, his family was not residing there.

I can’t find Bert in the 1930 census in Milwaukee, but found a Joseph and Ethel in nearby Cook County, IL. Joseph’s parents are believed to be first generation Americans but since I don’t know their names, I can’t confirm anything. Very frustrating!!

My brick wall is my ggg grandfather, David Spielman, b 1784?, 1786?, 1788?; d ??? Mt. Pleasant Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA? , son of John Spielman and Susannah Catherine Koeing. I’ve found him listed in numerous pedigree files with with all of the above birthdates. The one used most consistently is 20 Nov 1788, but nowhere can I find a source for this info. The fact that a specific date is listed makes me believe that a family Bible (or some other documentation) exists somewhere, but I am at a loss as to where. I’ve checked German Church Records, Westmoreland Co., PA 1772-1791 by Paul Miller Ruff and find numerous siblings, but not David. I can’t find death info for him at all. I know he was alive 18 Jan 1839 when the will of his mother, Catherine Spielman was proven; his wife Susan listed as head of household on the 1840 Census for Westmoreland Co, PA, dated 1 June 1840, so he presumably died between those two dates. I’d love to know something more concrete about his birth and death!
