Generations Publishes Two New Books
Chicago, Illinois – May 25, 2012: Professional Genealogist, Jennifer Holik, of Generations who brought you the new Branching Out series of kids’ genealogy textbooks in March, publishes two new books.
If you missed seeing these at the National Genealogical Society Conference in Cincinnati two weeks ago, the books are available to purchase!
Engaging the Next Generation: A Guide for Genealogy Societies and Libraries is written specifically for groups looking to create youth programs. This is a two-part book featuring one-hour and half-day youth program examples and the complete 4th-8th grade Branching Out set of thirty lessons. Part I allows genealogy societies and libraries to create youth programs based on example outlines, example speaking text, and project ideas in the book. Part II allows genealogy societies and libraries to build larger programs using the thirty lessons provided in the Branching Out series. Part II can also be used to teach beginning genealogy in public schools.
Branching Out: Genealogy Lessons for Adults is based on the Branching Out series for kids but brings the lessons up to an adult level. Thirty lessons teach adults the basics of genealogy research. This book contains new lessons not found in the kids’ versions of the books, including lessons on Ephemera, Research Agendas for Libraries and Archives, and Social Media.

I love genealogy and I love books. What could be a better combination than books about genealogy. I just ordered Engaging the Next Generation. I look forward to reading it and maybe getting something going with one of the local societies here. Judging by the crowd at the local societies, no one will be doing genealogy in forty years.
