Where is your next research trip?

With summer fast approaching, all I can think about is

where I want to go and research (not that I have the funds to do

this today). So, where do you plan to research over the summer?

Anyplace far from home?

My next research trip is coming up quickly! I am going to be driving up to South Bend, Indiana with my Mom. A cousin of mine is getting married in Chicago and while there I plan to check out the local historical society and Jewish genealogical society, request probate records, and hopefully meet with a potential client! The main thing I'm hoping to do is sit down with some of the older relatives and "pick their brains". I try to go up there at least once a year. It's not an exciting place to travel, but it's been the source of some exciting revelations in my research!

Sounds like you have it all thought out. Don't forget to bring

an audio or video recorder to tape some (if not all) of the brain

picking sessions.

I would love to go back to philly for a couple of weeks to just search though things on the family but that won't happen. However, I hope to hit Frankfurt Ky, for research on Joe's family. I need to find out why daddy-paw was in prision. Moon shine running maybe?

Hoping to make it to a couple places in the fall:

Keya Paha County, Nebraska

Colfax County, Nebraska

Shelby County, Missouri

The first is for my maternal line – we still have family there, many of which I have never met. The others are my paternal line, and would be hitting cemeteries, research centers, etc. I just have to convince my hubby that its worth the drive!

OOO Mitzs, are we related? Two years ago I did both Philly and Frankfort, KY. My husbands family has long ties to Philly and Cape May, NJ. My maiden name is Cassity and they are out of Bath County, KY. I'd love to get back to either of those places but first priorities this year are:

Peoria, IL on the Brant/Miller and Chicago on the McDonnell lines.

Columbia and Charleston, SC on the Cathcart lines.

Birmingham, AL on the Walker/Morrow lines

Well, that's typical.

Fastest way to get God to laugh is to make a plan!

So hubby is going to Columbia, SC without me next week and I've been frantically pulling together everything I want him to search.

I finally caved and tried to hire a genealogist to look something up for me at DC NARA and she said, if its there at all, its in Philly rather than DC. So, looks like I'll be back in Philly in the next month or two in order to finish/publish my journal article in time.

Funny, how meticulously we lay out our plans only to have a an email or two change everything!
