Need to find a resource
but not sure where to begin?
Let IDG help!
The team at The In-Depth Genealogist has compiled several resources pages to be of assistance to you. Here’s a recap of what you’ll find using the “Resources” drop-down menu on the menu bar above:
Do you like to include family history research as you travel for fun or work? Pulling from past issues of the IDG newsletter, we’ve added key articles from Terri O’Connell that will help will travel preparation as well as articles on including history and heritage in your travels by Dr. Bill Smith.
Family history researchers can never get enough online resources to help with their understanding of history, societies, or record sets. The IDG team has put together a state-by-state guide to help you along your way. Use the handy-dandy map on the State-Specific Resources page to target your geographical area of research. Or, visit The Family Atlas page to find past issues of Jen Baldwin’s series of articles that appeared in the IDG newsletter. Each article gives additional information on the history and resources within an individual state.
Currently we are compiling resources for the United States, we hope to add other countries in the future. Please be patient as we criss-cross the atlas and add more resources. Do you have a great resource to add? Please share it with us!
Researching a military ancestor? We’ve compiled some of the handiest websites to help you along your way. Currently, we have three areas of military research covered, though we will be adding more in the future. Do you have an interest in Civil War history and research? Be sure to read blog posts on the IDG blog by Cindy Freed, our resident Civil War specialist. Also, check out her monthly column, Tracing Blue and Gray, in our free monthly digital magazine, Going In-Depth.
Sharing your love of family history and genealogy with the next generation is so important! Not only does it give our children a sense of connectedness but it also helps them make history come alive through the personal stories and recollections of family members. IDG has collected a group of books, resources, and websites to assist you in your goal.
The In-Depth Genealogist strives to post only current information. If you see a broken link or a resource we have missed, please contact us.
